Good Morning Friends

Good morning from Lillie Mae Acres.  I got up extra early this morning, way before the roosters, way before the alarm clocks, way before the sunrise.  Our home is always cool to me in the mornings so I bundled up under one of my favorite throws in the dark living room to spend some quality time with God, my thoughts, and my prayers.

After seeing the men folk off to work, I decided to walk around outside before getting myself ready for work.

I love my little bird cage on the back porch.  I was going to paint it turquoise but decided bright sunshiny yellow is just so much happier.

I have fallen in love with Wayne's 1966 GMC pickup.  Every evening he cranks her up and drives her around enjoying her with a big grin on his face.  You know that look, the little boy with a new shiny toy look.  She needs a lot of work and he's enjoying every minute of it.

Some of the ladies are already in the hen house working and I didn't want to disturb them.  The guineas are already roaming around and not posing for morning pictures.  They are busy roaming and eating.
Shadow is so beautiful.  I love to spend time with her early in the morning before she goes out to pasture.

Matthew left the gate open for me since he knew I'd be leaving this morning too.  It's so quiet and peaceful here, only the sounds of nature.

If you look close to the left of the front door, I have posted a homestead sign to hopefully hang there forever.
I'll be so glad when we change the color of the trim from dark brown (which it's been for years) to a lighter shade.  That's just one of those items on our to-do list that's not real important.
I really enjoy our simple life here on our small little farm.  I give God all the glory and praise.

I sure hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Memorial Day and remembered the reason we recognize this day each year.

We had a small cookout here at Lillie Mae Acres.  My mom and step dad came up and we cooked up some yummy food, spent some time outdoors and enjoyed relaxing conversation and cooling off indoors.  We had originally planned a big family pool party and cookout but when it got canceled I must admit I did feel relief that the day would be much more stress-free and relaxed.

Our garden is doing pretty good, of course we need rain so bad.  We finally got some this evening and boy howdy were we thankful.  We're praying for a lot more though.

I meant to post about Matt's job.  He's always been a hard working guy, and at an earlier age than most he started helping with construction type projects as well as farm duties.  I helped him prepare a resume outlining his schooling, past experiences, and goals.  He applied at a local company that he was interested in working for and was called right away for an interview.  Praise the Lord, he got the job.  It's a small factory job with good hours, weekends off, and a nice starting salary for a young man.  He said he'll start some night schooling at the local state college when he adjusts to life as a working man.  That's fine with us.  I just can't describe how proud we are of him, his maturity, and his walk with God.   I pray he continues to allow God to walk before him and continues to put his future in God's hands.

The above picture is his first morning on the job.  Nope, he didn't really want his picture taken but eventually agreed.

You have to know that the two-tone cypress walls in the above picture are almost killing me.  Wayne assures me it won't take the new part long to turn and match the older, so I just try not to dwell on it.

Just a Water Bottle but Better

I want this and I want it now.  I even have my sister checking the Tervis store when she's on Panama City Beach for Memorial Day this weekend to see if they have this particular one.  Why don't I go check?  Because I can't stand Panama City Beaches and will only go out there if she tells me they have this one with the H2O on it.  If not, I will be ordering it.

I know, it sounds bad, immature, frivolous but I fell in love with it and I can't help it.  I was getting my tires rotated and balanced and also an oil change.  We do business with this great little mom and pop tire and auto repair shop and have for years.  The owner has the best magazines in the waiting area.  I was looking through a local magazine and there this beautiful thing was.  I don't usually fall for ads but I did this time.

I've been making myself drink more water and I know having a good water bottle will help.  We have delicious well water here at home and I always feel guilty for drinking bottled water.

Do you have a Tervis water bottle?  Do you love it?

Beautiful Something I Found

Isn't the above writing beautiful?  I found it by chance, I certainly can't take credit for it but I mean every word.  I love my husband.  He's such a good ole' country boy!  I pray for him daily and enjoy our quiet times together.  Even when he's grouchy, grumpy, moody, and way too quiet...I want to be in the same room with him.  I want to be close and silently pray for whatever is going wrong.  I've loved him almost as long as I've liked him.  I met him at church, we talked a long time before we ever went out on an official date.  Almost every night he brought me a mixed bouquet of fresh flowers until I literally had to ask him to stop.  My home smelled like a funeral parlor, honestly.  Still to this day, when he surprises me with flowers it's always a mixed bouquet.  A country mixture of beautiful colors.

This August we will celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary.  There have been a lot of hard times financially, only a few minor health problems thank God, but we've always let the SONshine outshine the clouds.  We raised a mighty fine strapping young son in church, teaching him to keep God the forefront and center of his life also.  These days we find ourselves part time empty nesters.  We put ourselves to the side and concentrated on our son and everything he needed, and had constant family time and family outings.  But we never put each other to the very back, forgetting that we mattered also.  I'm glad we did things that way because now in this part time empty nest life we're just fine.

Just Simple Beauty

Just simple beauty.  That's all there is to it.

Just a private little sitting area on the side of my little home.

This is what I floated around in today.  Cool, clear, beautiful, blue water.  Today was the first day I got in our pool and it felt so good.

I don't know!  Don't ask me why my cactus decided to bloom in late May.  The last time it bloomed was a couple of years ago in the month of February.

It was so inviting that I took a second dip in.  I deserved it after washing my Armada, cleaning and conditioning the leather, and vacuuming that messy thing out.

There you have it!  Just simple beauty and usually simple beauty doesn't cost much in dollars and is always so satisfying.

Something I Really Am Liking

Hey there.  I just want to share with you something I'm really liking these days.  Things are simple here on Lillie Mae Acres, not a lot of outside traffic so I just take every minute and situation and try to enjoy it.

I try to keep life creative, interesting, and personal.  I never want to be so busy that I stop doing special little personal things for my two favorite guys.  Here's a little something that I made with Wayne's help and I enjoyed making it with him as much as I enjoy using it.

Just a simple way to leave little messages for the family.

I got this idea back at Christmas time while shopping in a Bass Pro Shop.  Over in the camping and outdoor cooking department, they had signs made out of just pieces of wood telling you what was down each isle.  Well, a light went off in my head!  I wanted to have a similar sign for the patio/grilling area.  I didn't want mine to say something permanently so instead of wood burning something on it, I decided to use chalkboard paint.

The message on it in the above picture was for Wayne.  I wanted him to read a note on the washing machine and to start the laundry if he got home before me...but he didn't.  It's a handy way to leave such notes though.

I change it almost every morning.  The above picture shows this morning's note.  My two favorite guys headed out early to an out of town appointment and I wanted them to see this when they got home because I'd already be at work.

The other day when my good friend Dawn was coming for coffee, I wrote on it a message for her.  It's just inside the back door on the mud room floor but I will also be using it out by the grill when we have cookouts.  I can post the menu, a festive greeting, anything I want.  It's just a little something I'm having a lot of fun with.

You may want to make one for your home:  Of course the easel is a large metal one that I purchased.  I decided what size I wanted Wayne to cut each of the two message boards out of scrap wood.  Then I explained that I wanted him to connect them with two pieces of wood but that I wanted those pieces to show.  I like the rugged look of it.  I taped the edges with painters tape and I think each board has about four coats of chalkboard spray paint.  Let it dry in between each spray coat.  I already had plenty of chalk and an eraser.  That's it!  If you make one I hope you enjoy it.

Lovely Day

We had a lovely Mother's Day Sunday here on our little itty bitty farm.  It was a rainy day so good thing I planned fried chicken instead of something on the grill.  I hope each of you had a wonderful day as well.

I praise God for being the mother to my wonderful son Matthew and the daughter of my wonderful beautiful mom.  I cherish each day and am deeply touched by both of them and their walk with God, their strength and wisdom.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you beautiful mothers.  I plan to cook for my mom after church and am really looking forward to spending some precious time with her.  I'm so blessed to have my wonderful mom and to be a mom to my terrific son.

                      Cherish one another always.

Let The Decorating Begin

Let the decorating and final touches begin!  Actually I had already started it in my head but it's just now coming together in a few areas.  Some people don't bother to decorate their mudrooms, treating it as just an entrance/exit closet looking room.  Not Lillie Mae!  I was born to decorate every inch of my space.

I came home last night to a semi-finished tabletop on the old Singer trundle, it's just sitting there waiting for our final approval before being screwed down.  I think we're happy though so I think it's decided!  I love it when he surprises me with stuff.  He had the lights off and this lamp on and it looked so pretty!

And when hubby found these two ceramic hunting dogs at his mom's house when cleaning it out, he was so excited about them.  He's pretty sure she made them, probably about thirty years ago.  We knew we wanted to use them some way.  I'm debating on fixing their tails or not, both are broken and one crudely mended.  I think I can make them look better.  The lamp base is one I picked up a on one of my junkin' trips at a thrift store last year.  I didn't like the exposed wood base so I added the small rocks to cover it.
