DON'T You Dare Throw Those Berries Away

I just love the look of pip berries in my kitchen and I like changing them out with the seasons. If you've ever decorated with them, you know they aren't cheap to buy. Since the look is so prim, I choose to "invest" in them and decorate with them, although I am smart enough to use the Michael's coupons on them when I can or wait for the great sales. Don't you just love Michael's and Hobby Lobby? I have noticed that Michael's has prettier pip berry vines though. ANYWAY, if you decorate with them you know that unwinding them causes some of the little berries to fall off and roll everywhere. FUN! Here's my new plan!

On one of my latest trips to HL, I noticed that a lot of the cute little doll house furniture and items were discounted. I stopped to look at the fake food pieces but seen this adorable little galvanized wash tub. I bought it maybe to hang on the Christmas tree I put in my kitchen and decorate with kitchen decor. When the berries were rolling everywhere as I unrolled them and decorated for fall, I got my wonderful new idea! The adorable miniature galvanized wash tub became a part of my fall decor. The berries that came off and rolled everywhere now look like apples in the wash tub sitting at the foot of one of my fall angels on my prairie hutch.

So, don't you dare throw those berries away! They cost too much!

I hope you're all at least thinking about decorating for fall. I'll admit, my front porch is not decorated yet but I'm almost finished in the kitchen.

Thanks for dropping by again. I've got a mountain of laundry to fold and supper to get started so that's it for today from Lillie Mae Acres. HAPPY decorating!

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Fall

Although the farmhouse kitchen here on Lillie Mae Acres is making it begin to look like fall, outside is still lush and green and super HOT! That's ok, cooler temps will be here real soon so I'm taking my time decorating. I've got such an early start that I'm certainly not in a hurry now.

Here are a few more pictures for ya'll to enjoy. I'm still not finished and little Lily is coming to stay with us this weekend so I won't really be concentrating on this while she's here.

I mentioned a surprise project in my last post. A long time ago that dear sweet talented hubby of mine built me some inset shelving. I think that's what it's called, when the shelves are set into the wall? Anyway, it is cedar planked and I have always had small items and collections displayed. Lately we've been enjoying a new set of dvd's The Flatt & Scruggs Grand Ole Opry Show. Their faux backdrop looks like a general store and I decided that I just had to have a General Store in my kitchen. I went around the house and out in the shed carefully selecting old items that would look good on the shelves, plus made sure to buy a few small packages of Martha White flour and Pet milk to display. If you do this, make sure to empty the flour into baggies and stuff the bags with stuffing. You don't want bugs! And of course I'll use the milk in dessert recipes and rinse out the cans well.

I'm real happy with how it turned out. I have a lot of other decorating and diplays to finish up and show ya'll but that's it for now. I hope you enjoyed it.

As I mentioned, that sweet little Lily is coming to stay with us this weekend and we're looking forward to her visit. Now I have to get off of this computer and run Matthew's report card to our Allstate agent so we can get the good student discount. Ugh, every little bit of money saved will help when adding a 16 year old male child to your auto policy.

As always, thank you for stopping by. Come back real soon.

Sneaky Peaky into my Personal fall Explosion

Here's just a little sneak peak at what I've been up to. I know it shouldn't be taking so long but I'm working on it a little each day and fall deep cleaning as I go. I went to town today and was able to pick up a few things that I wanted to complete my explosion of fall.
Sunday was wonderful as usual as Sundays are meant to be. But it was also a good coupon day. Our newspaper is only filled with useful coupons about every third Sunday. Honestly, I don't understand why we buy it sometimes. Michaels and Hobby Lobby also had good emails, Michaels email was actually a 50% coupon vs. the 40% one in their sales ad. So packed with coupons today, I headed to town.
Today was also my nephew's 5th birthday so when I was in Michaels I picked up a bunch of really neat paintable projects and a nice set of paints for his gift. That'll keep him busy.
I hope you enjoyed the sneaky peaky into my personal fall explosion. I hope to have everything finished tomorrow, plus a surprise project that I decided to do.
Come back and visit Lillie Mae Acres real soon because you just never know what I've been up to.

Rainy (orange, green, brown, etc.) Weekend

It's been a rainy weekend in Florida. Guess what I'm doing?

I'll give you a hint: I've got an explosion of colors surrounding me. Oranges, greens, browns, etc.
And NOPE, I don't have a bunch of bags of candy corn surrounding me. I sure like them sugary little tri colored things though. I bite off one color at a time.

Ok August, I'm Done With You

This month has been a very busy month. I'll be so glad when August is gone so I can use September and October to the fullest. Although the weather will be hot and muggy until the end of October, it is what Floridians are dealt with so I'll decorate to the fullest. Ok August, I'm done with you. Go away now!

Precious little Lily Grace came to stay with us one night. She's such a good baby and did so well. We were mainly stuck inside though because every time I tried to take her out, her beautiful white skin attracted yellow flies. Ugh, those things hurt when they bite so getting in the pool was also out of the question. Rocking on the front porch while watching for Mema (my mother, her great grandmother) to arrive was out of the question. We were out there after breakfast and a yellow fly landed on her chubby sweet little foot! One more reason I'm done with summer!

I also let her get as dirty as a little pig. How can a curious 10 month old stay clean when she's exploring?
On August 20, that sweet hubby and I celebrated another wedding anniversary. I am so blessed that I have a God fearing husband that loves God with his whole heart. He also loves and cherishes me and his husband responsibilities as well as Matthew and fatherhood. I would NEVER say marriage and parenthood is perfect because there is no way it could be. It takes work and devotion out of every person involved, but it's so much easier when God is the center of everything. Living by the Bible is so much easier than trying to wing it!

So how about you? Are you done with August and summer? Is the autumn/fall fever raging inside of you as bad as it is inside of me?
Don't be surprised if the next posting is one about fall and fall decorations. I might not be able to wait until September!

Just a very personal note: There is so much going on in my daily life right now that is requiring my mental and physical time/energy. My sister (sweet little seester) and I are really going through a lot with our dad's stuff and trying to get everything resolved BEFORE the end of the year. If you haven't followed/read Lillie Mae Acres for very long, my dad passed away in February. I can't believe it's already been 6 months! Although some paperwork/legal matters was taken care of, a lot was NOT! We are just leaning. depending, and drawing strenth and wisdom from God. Sometimes it seems one step forward sets us three steps back, but we just have to keep telling each other that we're headed towards the mountain top. Please keep us in your prayers. I sure appreciate it!

Remember, don't be surprised if my next posting has FALL splattered all over it. I know ya'll have to be getting excited about the beautiful holidays and weather that's just around the corner! Have a blessed weekend.

Thrifted Treasures

That sweet hubby of mine took me thrifting Saturday and we enjoyed the whole day with no time limits. In between the many stops, we did enjoy a wonderful lunch at Cracker Barrel. It's sort of in between seasons right now, so I didn't find anything in the general store that I couldn't live without. I'm sure with more fall and holiday stuff arriving daily that the next time I go, there will be something I have to have. Lunch was delicious as usual.

We started at our favorite flea market then went from there all over the city from one antique mall to another. We even found a new thrift store that is now one of our favorites!

Here are my wonderful thrifted treasures of the day.

And guess what my grand total of the day in $$ was! Oh you won't believe it. I spent under $7.00 on everything in this picture. Yep, and all in loose change! The most I had to count out at any one store or location was a little over $3.00 so using up the heavy change in my purse was not a problem.

The big nice upholstered pillow is new or like new. It was a whopping $1.00. I got it because I have fabric to reupholster it in and it's so firm and large, unlike the expensive pillow forms that Walmart now carries. I just need to find a few more and I'll reupholster them all at the same time.

The Pfaltzgraff "you are special today" plate was .50, and although it's not my china pattern it will do when I'm celebrating family birthdays. A girl just can't leave a special plate that is only .50 sitting there can she, especially of Pfaltzgraff quality
The pictures of the mustard candle shelf do not do it justice. It does need a little stain rubbed on it to prim it up a little more, but in my prim opinion it looks so much better than it did. Look back at the picture of items on the porch, this candle shelf was stained but also had a shiny finish on it.

The pretty wall pocket below mimics an antique wooden scoop. I love it by my back door. I used to have a hanging lantern there but this looks better. I found the chunky olive green candle at Hobby Lobby to stand in it. Just what I envisioned!

I haven't really done anything else with the other items, oh but you know I will be sitting these other little prim treasures around to make Lillie Mae Acres as pretty and cozy as I can.

Well, I hope you enjoyed today's visit. I'm sure thankful that you came by and I can't wait to see what little treasures you've come across at wonderful prices. See you next time.

Shoo-Fly Screen

Hey there everyone. It's been real busy around Lillie Mae Acres, but last night I did find some time for myself and a project that I wanted to do.

When my good friend Benita, her cute little blog is titled The Adventures of Driving Miss Daisy, mentioned wanting to make a prim looking shoo-fly screen, I set about trying to find instructions. I was so glad to find easy instructions and pictures over at Olde Pear Primitives. Genevieve decided to share with the world how she makes these great little screens and sells them. Her blog is also a good one so please go over and take a look at her beautiful prim goods.

I found a nice size metal colander at Walmart and although it took my sweet hubby's strength to cut off the metal handles, the work was worth it. He also grinded down the sharp cut metal with his electric grinder and I filled in the small areas with hot glue. That's all I could think of to fill the areas in before painting. It worked great, you can hardly tell.

I regret that I didn't use her great "rusting" technique and should have. I'm not happy with the primer color that I used. I plan on changing it to make it look more like authentic rust.
Go on over to her blog and take a look around. Tell her Lillie Mae sent ya over!

I have such a bad case of fall fever, I'm having to fight the urge to decorate. I just keep telling myself it's too HOT and part of the fun is the cooler weather. So, I'm making myself wait but stores like Hobby Lobby and Michaels does not make it easy.

Playing Favorites

From my FAVORITE seat in the living room, I can see my current FAVORITE grouping. I guess that's what it's called. Grouping, arrangement? The big black J is my FAVORITE recent find, and this is one of my FAVORITE pictures of hubby and I. It was taken at his 50th birthday party.

Since this short but sweet post is about FAVORITES, this is my FAVORITE drive way. If hubby is running right on time and I start supper early, I can look out my kitchen window and catch him roaring up the drive after a long tiring day of work. That always brings comfort to me because I know that one of my FAVORITE people has made it home sweet home again, safe and sound. And that is one of my FAVORITE feelings.

It's very late (actually early because it's after midnight). I'm fixing to go crawl in my FAVORITE comfy bed and snuggle up to one of my FAVORITE people. And yep, that will wake him up and in the morning as I kiss him goodbye, he'll say for the one millionth time that I sat up too late.
